Train Yourself – Train Your Dog
So has your Christmas been peaceful? I always get a lot of calls around this time of year from people who tell me that their dog has been a nightmare. That extra time at home has shown a little more of the dog’s behaviour to the unsuspecting owner. Whether it’s jumping all over the guests, scaring the children, pinching the turkey or generally causing mayhem, their dog is not quite as well behaved as they thought.
Whatever the age or breed, it’s never too late to train your dog and teach them good manners. You may not have a house full all year round but you do want a dog you can trust and that is well behaved. Some consistent training will give you a dog you can be proud of .
Of course this is also the time of year when we start thinking about new year’s resolutions. A popular one is to look after ourselves a little better, maybe eat less and exercise more. Perhaps for a few dog owners, this would be a good suggestion for their dog too. Overweight dogs have numerous health problems and too many treats now will absolutely cause trouble later. I recommend Bob and Lush dog food to all my clients. It has 100% natural ingredients and comes with a feeding plan so there’s no risk of overfeeding your dog.
Exercise is the best way to keep your dog fit and healthy and of course, to build that all important bond. You can include your dog in many fitness activities so as you train yourself, you can train your dog. This will bring so much fun into your training; you can even set goals you can achieve together.
Whatever your plans for 2019, make sure your dog is part of them. Dog ownership is a privilege and a responsibility. They should take a lot of your time but the rewards are immense. If you’d like to know more about training with your dog during 2019, give me a call.
