Sheepdog Training Tess the rehomed Border Collie

If you follow me on social media you’ll have seen that I’ve recently helped a client re-home one of their Border Collie. When they went to buy Django they felt sorry for the last bitch left and decided to take two. If they’d have spoken with me prior I’d have strongly advised against it. When you buy siblings it makes training harder, they tend to bond together, so you need to walk separately and most importantly build a bond that they have with you and not each other. That instantly doubles your training.

Unfortunately Treacle the bitch was clearly a sheepdog driven to work. Instantly when I met both dogs at 12 weeks I said she needed to work. Her owners preserved but Treacle proved to be too much, so I spent time looking for the new home. Luckily I have two clients that have trained working dogs with me and they also run a small holding. It was always their intentions to get a Collie but not until 2023. So after a conversation they agreed to take a look at her.

It wasn’t plain sailing, because after taking Treacle home she attacked Adam and bit him severely. Whilst it wasn’t great we realised the problem the day after and worked together to solve the problem. Within 24hours she was a completely different dog and today she showed me how driven she is to work on sheep.

I’m really looking forward to training Tess, which she’s now been renamed as. Her drive and style is so nice.
