Unrealistic Expectations with Ted the Springer Spaniel
I had a call asking if I could help polish off the training of a Springer Spaniel. The owner wanted to use this young dog in the field this season. He has trained Ted himself using a combination of books, videos and anecdotal advice.
When I met Ted it was obvious that the owner had unrealistic expectations. His recall wasn’t great and neither was his delivery. I explained to the owner that he had left it very late to begin professional working dog training. We are now having to take Ted back to basics as he is nowhere near the level the owner thought he was. I think it is likely that Ted will not be ready for the field until next year’s season.
