Sam and Harry the Springer Spaniel

It’s been 4 months since I first met Sam for his first gundog lesson with Harry the Springer Spaniel and it’s certainly been a fun and interesting time. Sam is one very dedicated and committed person who’s determined to be out in the 2018 shooting field with an obedient working dog. Having Cerebral Palsy doesn’t stop Sam from doing anything, in fact it makes him intent on showing people that he can work his dog.

This week he walked into a gun shop for advise on his first shotgun, he felt it’d be a good idea whilst at the shop to ask if the owner knew of any local shoots he could contact in anticipation of the shooting season. I was totally surprised and annoyed that not only was he treated appallingly but he was told that he’d never pick up with a Springer Spaniel. Thankfully Sam told the owner straight and certainly will not be buying from that shop.

No matter what our background, wealth, age or ability we should encourage and help everyone who wants to be involved in country sports.
