Residential training doesn’t stop when you take your dog home.
Every week I receive enquiries asking if I’ll take a dog for residential gundog training or even behavioural correction training through our domestic training website. A question I always ask is whether they’re prepared to continue with their dogs training after the course or are they looking for their dog to return home with a remote control. Whilst I will train to a level agreed it’s important to remember that training is an ongoing process. It’s like getting fit at the gym and then expecting to stay fit without continuing the training. It doesn’t happen!
Many of my clients always follow through with training on 1-2-1 lessons, but it’s frustrating when clients feel they don’t need to, that the dog will continue to be perfect. Any dog given the chance will push boundaries so if we allow gaps in the training to open then guaranteed we will end up with a gap as big as the grand canyon which will have wasted your money, my time and most importantly confused your dog as to why he’s gone through a wasted training programme.
Residential training is a great way to offer an intense training programme that will enhance the 1-2-1 programme, Dram the Labrador is an example of this. This week Dram went home with a training programme in place to ensure he’s the well trained dog Rob wants for the 2017 shooting season.
