Residential Training with Brooke the Cocker Spaniel

Brook and her owner traveled all the way from Bristol for Residential Gundog Training. Through many of my media platform Luke had watched and read information about my training and the way I train. It was important to Luke that he worked with a trainer he trusted and who had a calm positive manner, so traveling wasn’t an issue.

Brooke was 8 months old when she arrived and a very lively, distracted little girl. In fact Luke’s initial comment to me was “She seems more interested in scent than me at the minute” and that was certainly true. Whilst she’s a working Spaniel who loves to hunt it’s important to instil steadiness and focus from on the outset. Brooke’s hunting was totally self employed and her commands were nonexistent, I’d almost say she was still thinking she was a puppy. Having drive and a good work ethic is something I look for in a working dog and Brooke had plenty of that.

Over the residential period Brooke progressed well and achieved lots, during my hand over with Luke I stressed the importance of following my training programme and certainly not to rush. The foundation building blogs have been laid with Brooke’s training and it’s important we dont knock them down. I know Luke is 100% committed to training with Brooke and I look forward to seeing them once a month for follow up 1-2-1 gundog training.
