Residential Gundog Training with Poppy the Labrador, Preston, Lancashire.

Poppy is a beautiful 2 year old black Labrador that I have had the pleasure of training over the past years as she became a successful working dog.  Poppy is a great asset to Keith in the shooting field and has recently resided with me for refresher residential gundog training.  With the 2013 shooting season upon us it was important for Keith to ensure that Poppy was up to the required standard as she had not been in for training for some time.

As with all dogs that attend residential gundog training, I always assess where they are up to over the first 24 hours.  When assessing Poppy, it was evident that someone within the family was playing ball with Poppy but allowing her to drop the retrieve, bounce back and dictate for attention.  I messaged Keith who was curious to know how I knew someone was playing such games and when I explained he assured me this would stop. It is important to remember that we can spend many hours, days and months training a dog a discipline but it only takes seconds to undo.

Poppy’s residential gundog training was positive and I am confident that she will do Keith proud throughout the shooting season whilst out in the field.
