Puppy gundog training assessment with Ted the Springer Spaniel.

Over the years I’ve been fortunate to train with Sue and her Labradors, and now her new Springer Spaniel.  Today her son Gary’s attended his 1st 1-2-1 Gundog Training Lesson that his mum had kindly organised.

I met Gary and his Springer Spaniel Ted his at one of my Dog Obedience Training Classes were we instilled the basic commands.

Gary is a confident guy but with Ted he’s worried he’ll get it wrong.  The best advise I always say is train for you and your dog and no one else.  Worrying what others think will only limit your success.

Ted is a cracking 9 month pup that’s certainly full of character.  Todays assessment lesson enabled me to show Gary that with fun, structure and consistency they can achieve some great results.  One problem area Gary has is recall and attention.  Many times I meet people who have allowed their puppies too much freedom and therefore as they mature the distance/confidence increases.  Gary has some work to ensure Ted stays within the boundaries, but if he’s interesting and fun the bond will grow and Ted will work closure and recall consistently.

I look forward to seeing them both soon and will post updates in the blog.
