Progress with Zeus the Rescue Border Collie
I’ve seen Carolyn with her dog Zeus six times now. He is a rescue Collie and when he first came to me, he was dominating his owner. Carolyn has been recently widowed and has given a lot of love and affection to Zeus. I frequently come across ‘comfort-blanket’ dogs that have been over-loved for all kinds of reasons. This lack of structure and confusion of boundaries creates unruly dogs because they don’t know their place in the pack.
Carolyn really wanted to be able to walk Zeus off the lead without him running off or chasing things. Over the lessons we have gone back to basics and built a strong bond. A good sit, wait and recall have been established. We have progressed his training from there. This rescue Collie is a great example of a breed that is not a gundog but can enjoy and benefit from gundog training. Consequently, in his most recent lesson, Zeus was off the lead the entire time, working on retrieves.
Understandably, Carolyn is delighted with what they have achieved. You can read her full testimonial here:
I feel Damian is teaching me how to unlock my dogs potential…he showed me how to work with him and I am now at a point where I love taking him for walks, and the joy on his face when he is practicing retrieval or playing off his lead is fantastic to see.
