Partners in Crime – Gundog Training

Today was certainly a fun training day.

I’d arranged for Simon and Scott to have a joint gundog lesson. Between us we had 5 dogs, Scott with Bryn the Labrador, Simon with Belle and Lady the Labradors and me with Pepper and Nell the Springer Spaniels.

We started of with some basic steadiness and retrieves. Bryn was the first to retrieve a dummy, he went out straight, hunted well and started on a fast return. At that point I could see Scotts joy and satisfaction as sometime Bryn can stop for a wee on his first out. As he neared Scott he decided that the dummy wasnt the best retrieve option so decided to proceed to Simons game bag and retreive his expensive tweed hat to Scott. Yes, it wasn’t what we’d sent him for but he delivered to hand and sat at his side. At that point I “always find a positive out of a negative”. For Scott he was ecstatic as months ago he’d tease with the retrieve he shouldn’t have got.

Throughout the lesson we trained over various terrain, challenging all our dogs with difficult retrieves. As you will see from their faces the mornings training was certainly enjoyed by all.
