Gundog Training with Woody the Cocker Spaniel puppy.
Woody is a young Cocker Spaniel puppy who is booked on for a 6 week dog obedience course. Unfortunately the new classes are not due to start for another 4 weeks and Amanda therefore decided that it would be beneficial to begin Woody’s training sooner through 1-2-1 gundog training sessions. As Amanda is looking to training Woody towards being a working gundog, she understood the importance of foundation training at a young age. At the initial appointment, I assessed woody and was pleased with his eagerness and willingness to want to work and retrieve. The first lesson consisted of an introduction to basic obedience and basic gundog training which is exactly as I would do with my own puppies. Woody showed that he has some great potential and Amanda was keen to learn a lot about training her dog and the levels that can be achieved from young puppies and older dogs.
As the first assessment was an hour long, I made use of Inca, the residential Labrador puppy and Wisp, my Spinger Spaniel puppy to demonstrate to Amanda what can be achieved by 18 weeks of age if the basics are instilled correctly from an early age. Amanda is now is looking at entering the gundog world as she is keen to start shooting and therefore wants Woody to become her companion whilst out in he field.
