Gundog Training Luke the Flatcoat Retriever on Cold Game

Gundog Training Luke the Flatcoat Retriever on Cold Game

This afternoon I visit a client at her land to deliver Gundog Training. The setting was beautiful and offered some amazing views over the moors.  I attended this 1-2-1 Gundog Lesson with Wisp and Pepper: my two young Springer Spaniels, to help with steadiness training for Luke the Flatcoat Retriever.

Luke’s Gundog Training is coming along great. As with all young dogs, training needs to be seen as a positive experience not only for the dog but for the handler too.  Dogs are very good readers of emotions and if you get stressed, or feel negative, it guarantees that your training session will be negatively affected.

Flatcoats are very sensitive dogs, but by working together we’ve ensured that Luke’s training is 100% positive. If he does make mistakes I always say to my client to “find the positive from the negatives”. This is a great way to approach your training and has helped establish the high level of working standards in my own dogs.

Luke is an amazing dog who will certainly be at the side of me and his owners’ in the 2014 shooting season showing that Flatcoats can work well in the field.
