Gundog Training with Amber the Springer Spaniel.

You may have read posts that were previously posted about Amber the Springer Spaniel.  Amber is now 14 months old and is showing some promising signs to becoming a great working dog.  It is important to remember that whilst we think we have mastered a particular training exercise, consistency is key and these exercises have to be revisited.  Amber has fantastic ability to mark retrieves and delivers perfectly to hand however, recently her keenness has caused her to run in.  Today’s gundog training lesson allowed me to observe Graham whilst handling, highlighting where he was going wrong and how we can correct Amber.  Steadiness is paramount to a gundog and gundog training.  It is great to have a spaniel that will hunt cover and retrieve however if the dog is over keen then this could result in problems in the field.  It is therefore paramount that we continue to train our dogs daily in basic gundog training and obedience, reinforcing everything that they learnt as a puppy.
