Gundog Training Hunting and Quartering with Tilli the Cocker Spaniel, Preston, Lancashire.

Tilli is a cracking little Cocker Spaniel with a huge amount of confidence, who knows no limits when hunting.  Lynne, Tilli’s owner has been working hard with her training but is finding it hard to get control whilst around strong game scented ground.

Tonight I decided I would work Tilli for the whole hour around my ground whilst Lynne observed how I controlled her, but more importantly how I quickly regained control if Tilli started to ignore whistle commands. The whole lesson was a huge success with a flush/sit up on a rabbit whilst quartering.  Normally Tilli would give chase, but after a stop I carried on hunting her and working the grounds. Lynne and I was impressed with the whole lesson, despite a few mistakes Tilli showed Lynne what a great assest she’ll be in the shooting fields.  Lynne realised by observing me work Tilli that most of the training is about calmness, timing and reading your dog.
