Gundog Training Assessment with Darcy the Cocker Spaniel, Preston, Lancashire.
Darcy is a young Cocker Spaniel owned by Ian from Wales. Ian’s a keen shooting and stalking man with a great passion for the outdoors. In fact the array of outdoor food and survival books in his van made interesting title reading.
Like many working dog owners, Ian’s read booked, watched videos and had various advise in the pub and on shoots from fellow shooters on how to train Darcy. Ian’s main worry was that he didn’t have the time at present to get the basic right in order for the more advanced Gundog Training to commence.
Today’s assessment allowed me to observe Darcy and Ian working together. It was evident that the bond wasn’t just quite right. After a few minutes with me the connection I had with Darcy was good, Ian commented how impressed he was with what’s been achieved in a short time. Darcy is like a sponge, ready to absorbs all around and keen to learn.
After we’d completed the hours assessment Ian discussed the possibility of Darcy attending Residential Gundog Training. It’s was agreed that in a weeks time Darcy would return for residential training to commence.
Since meeting Ian and Darcy, I’ve communicated on numerous occasions and every times Ian has been positive about the future and commented how their bond is growing.
