Gundog Training Assessment with Walter and Stan the Italian Spinone’s

Meet Walter the 7 month old Italian Spinone who attended his first gundog training lesson today. Our main focus for today’s lesson was with Walter but I couldn’t let them go home without correcting Stan’s pulling on the lead.

Stan is 3 year old and very much self employed with recall and focus which hasn’t helped with Walter’s development. Like many owners Walter’s been allowed to follow Stan with no time spent on walking and training Walter individually. Dave’s wife decided to book some lessons as a present so today is the start of their gundog journey together. It was good for Dave to see how little bond and command structure he has with Walter, even a simple sit wasn’t possible, so we are starting at the beginning, instilling basic commands and structure.

Dave and Walter have gone home with a lot of homework and I look forward to seeing their progress in April.
