Getting The Gundog Bug
Many people I train have no intention of taking their dog on a shoot. They just want a well behaved dog who is physically and mentally stimulated to their breed standard. This was the case with Steve and his Cocker Spaniel, Daffy. He wanted a dog with good recall and good manners and has worked hard with me to achieve this.
Daffy has progressed so much that on his most recent lesson, we introduced cold game training with a pheasant. We were able to do this as Daffy is steady with perfect recall, can be controlled at a distance and works well around other dogs. The cold game was a challenge for Daffy but he rose to it and both dog and owner thoroughly enjoyed the lesson.
Steve is now considering picking up on a shoot and he has an excellent dog to work with. He has been bitten by the gundog bug. If your dog is that good – why not put them to work?
