German Shorthaired Pointer Puppy Training the Tessleymoor Way

13 week old Hunter the German Shorthaired Pointer Puppy attended his second lesson last week. His first lesson was certainly an eye opener for his owners. Having never owned an HPR breed and having some mobility issues, Hunter had already started to dominate the situation. During his first lesson he was totally defiant, growling, tugging at the lead and generally disobedient. Now as a puppy we’re not expecting an angel but we’d expect some compliance when asked. Since then his owners have certainly worked hard to achieve results and that was evident during our lesson.

Over loving and a lack of black and white commands from an early age had created his dominant and defiant behaviour. It’s never too early to start training your puppy. From the day you bring them home, usually at about eight weeks, structure and boundaries need to be put in place. Thankfully, the owners have sought help to train the Tessleymoor way. We are able to work together to ensure we have a well balanced and happy dog that will listen when given a command.
