Tupping Time At Tessleymoor

I’m learning as I go as a first-time farmer. I like to follow tradition – what has worked for generations for other farmers is good enough for me. For example, with tupping time the saying goes: go in with a bang, out on a fool. The ewes are tupped on November 5th and lambs arrive on April 1st.

However, sometimes life gets in the way and with the loss of my dad and his funeral, I wasn’t able to meet my November 5th plan. Instead, Whiskey, my coloured Ryeland tup, met his ladies one day later on November 6th. Working with my sheepdog, Skye, I’d moved the ewes onto fresh grass. One night in and he’d already served six of my ewes, time will tell how good a job he’s done.
