First Lamb On The Farm

Today marks a big milestone in the life of the Tessleymoor Farm as we welcomed our first lamb into the world. She was born in the field, quickly and easily. Her first-time mum, a Hexham Black Faced Mule, did a great job and bonded with her lamb straight away.

Unlike in lambing sheds, where lambs are marked straight away, with lambing in the field we try and keep intervention to a minimum. Being my first lambing, I asked advice from fellow farmers. They told me to quickly check the lamb over then leave her to bond with her mum. They are still with the main flock and appear happy and settled. I’ll catch the lamb again in a couple of days to ring her tail and give her another check over.

I’m hoping all my lambing is as uneventful and will keep you updated with the new arrivals.
