Huge Demand For Dog Training Services
The weeks are flying by at the moment as I am experiencing a huge demand for my dog training services. With the range of services I now offer – virtual, practical and residential – there is always the perfect package to train your dog.
Puppies
I have had an influx of enquiries about buying a puppy. I have blogged before about the high demand for puppies during lockdown. Unfortunately, this has led to unscrupulous breeding of dogs purely on commercial grounds, with no regard for the welfare of the mother or the long term health of the pups. The prices being asked for some puppies are truly unbelievable. My advice to many who enquire has been just to wait. I would always say don’t rush into buying a dog, especially if it is your first. This still applies. For those who don’t want to wait, there are still genuine breeders asking genuine prices out there.
Behavioural Training
Another area where I have seen an increase in enquiries has been for behavioural training. The lack of structure during lockdown, with many family members at home all day, has not been great for dogs. Boundaries have been relaxed, resulting in domineering behaviour from dogs that are just getting too much attention.
This also applies to rescue dogs. In their eagerness to get a dog, people are opting for the rescue option without doing their research. Only when they get the dog home are they discovering the problems with their behaviour. I always advise people to think very carefully before taking on a rescue dog and to find out as much as possible about their history before committing to the rescue.
Virtual Lessons
My virtual training lessons continue to be very well received. The feedback I have had is that owners are finding that the focus on helping the owner understand what is required of themselves, is proving very effective. With these lessons taking place in and around the home, the result is calm, well mannered dogs in the house.
I look forward to keeping you updated with some individual training stories in the next few days.
