Do Your Dog Training Homework
Adam is a first time dog owner. Sensibly, he came to see me with his young puppy, Marv, a Hungarian Vizsla. Many people select this breed and see them through amber coloured glasses. The reality is, they are highly bred gundogs that have a tendency to be headstrong and defiant. They need structured training, like The Tessleymoor Way, if they are to become good companions.
At Marv’s first lessons, I went over a lot of the puppy training basics with Adam. He responded well and I sent them away with some dog training homework. At the next lesson, it became apparent that Adam had not followed through with any of the training. He had not used the slip lead I recommended so there was no progress with heel work. I explained to him that puppies develop really fast. Instead of missing a couple of weeks of training, it was like he had missed months and months of foundational behavioural training with Marv. I also explained that I was not there to stand in a wet and windy field for entertainment. I don’t have time for lip service, either do the work or don’t come.
Adam took this kicking to heart. He listened, implemented my instructions and immediately saw results. I look forward to progressing Marv’s training now Adam understands the importance of his dog training homework.
