Focus required for Lola the Vizsla

I have a Hungarian Vizsla arriving for residential training this week. Lola is 12 months old and her owner already has two Vizslas so knows the breed well. Unfortunately, Lola is causing problems. The owner has land and Lola has become an escape artist, getting out of the garden and running as far as she can. Despite seeing a dog trainer once a month, Lola has made no progress and does not listen to her owner. I’m not sure what the dog trainer had been doing but from my 1-2-1 assessment, I could see that the problem areas were not being tackled. She lacks focus and has been overloved.

Many trainers will tell an owner what they want to hear but that’s not my style. I left the owner in no doubt that this Vizsla needsĀ a lot of work, she is very headstrong. Out of control dogs like this can be dangerous to themselves and others. Lola has already jumped from the boot of the car in the town centre and stopped the traffic. At the moment she’s a liability.

While Lola is with me, I’ll be taking her back to basics using my Tessleymoor Way training method. Unlike the other Vizslas in the family, Lola has been bred to work. She needs desensitising from her desire to chase anything that moves and then training up again as a working dog. By using this breed potential, she will be a happy and fulfilled dog and her owner will have a dog she can work.

Keep checking in on my blog and Instagram for updates on Lola’s progress.
