Believe and you will achieve
It can be hard to see progression with your training, especially when you are with your dog everyday. Liam with Charlie the rescue Springer Spaniel is a classic example. I first met them three months ago. Charlie has not had the best start in life, resulting in him being fearful and also lacking in basic training. When Liam first had him, he was pulling on the lead, no recall, stubborn and headstrong. Liam had a strong bond with his previous dog and this rescue Springer was proving hard to train, hence his request to work with me.
Charlie has made massive progress but it takes a long time. Today after our lesson, Liam was wondering if he’d ever achieved the dog he was hoping for. I told him: you and Charlie have achieved more in the months that I’ve trained with you than a lot of my clients who’ve had their dogs from a puppy. Charlie works around my dogs, he sits steady to a thrown dummy, marks a retrieve, delivers to hand, works with whistle commands, works around livestock/deer and doesn’t run off. Most importantly, Charlie has an amazing bond with Liam. The bond they have is not by bribing or buying with food, it’s been earned.
I look forward to training with them both in the future and continuing the fantastic progress they have both made.
