A Fantastic Gundog Training Lesson with Darren and Ollie the Labrador.

I have wrote many blog posts, tweets and Facebook messages over the year whilst training with Darren.  Their training journey together has been interesting with many bad days followed with glimmers of positive.  One thing I can definitely say about Darren is that “he’s a dedicated owner”.  Darren’s determination to achieve is one I rarely see with a wayward dog.  Many people would have sold Ollie and started again with a new dog, but not Darren.  I take my hat of to him and applaud the dedication he’s shown.

Today’s lesson proved that all his work has been worth while.  We worked Ollie with Pepper in some tall grasses, one of the exercise was on some seriously long blinds that I tucked in to the head across the fields.  Both dogs worked well until we got to the final blind.  This one was particularly hard, not only was it a few hundred yards it was through tough terrain.  It was also placed where the dog would be out of site.  My Pepper worked hard but the smells and distance where confusing her so we sent Ollie.  His line was straight as he worked hard into the cover and then Darren went quite.  Ollie was out of site, silence was heard until Ollie appeared with the dummy.  To say he was happy was an understatement.
