Gundog Training with Harvey the Labrador our new addition to training.
Harvey is a new addition to gundog training and our kennels. Harvey is my fiancés daughter dog and prior to meeting Jade he was allowed to push boundaries, would give chase on rabbits/game and generally be naughty/disobedient. Retrieving was a game to him, being allowed to run around and tease everyone when returning with the toy.
Harvey’s character is one of wanting to please, so initially I started on redefining the basics by taking him to my dog obedience training classes and working with him in the fields on a 1-2-1 basis so the bond between dog and handler is strong and consistent. Focus is key to any success with dog/gundog training. Everyone of my dogs need to be able to work individually and as a pack waiting for their commands.
Over the weeks Harvey’s focus is improving, he’s demonstrating in class and the fields that he wants to learn and with some time he certainly will become an obedient family/working dog.
People ask me can I have a family dog and a working dog, the answer is yes as long as there’s consistency with your commands and training.
I’ll be updating you on his progress throughout his training.
