Gundog training assessment with Tam the Cocker Spaniel

Meet Tam an 18 month old Cocker Spaniel that’s destined for the shooting field.

Graeme had previously trained Tess his older Cocker Spaniel but pushing to hard with her training created problems. This time he decided to try a differcet approach and seek advise from friends, the internet and books. Whilst he has a dog that look ready for the shooting field unfortunately he’s not. As with any training it’s important to establish a good bond followed by basic commands, both of these are lacking. Tams hunting style is one I described to Graeme as a Meerkat standing on alert.

Tam has all the makings of a good working companion, all we need to do is structure his drive and focus him on the job in hand.
