Gundog Training Tilly the Labrador.
Tilly has recently attended a 6 weeks dog obedience class with her owner Marcus. Marcus has decided to continue Tilly’s training through 1-2-1 gundog training sessions as he is keen to train Tilly to breed standard and as a working dog. Tilly is 5 months old and she is a lively, energetic dog. Marcus is unsure at present whether Tilly will be used as a shooting companion or whether he will enter her for field trials and scurries.
Marcus lives in a quiet rural area and therefore does not experience many people or other dogs whilst out walking or training Tilly. This has caused problems with Tilly meeting and greeting other dogs as developing the skills required to work alongside them. Tilly is excelling in all areas of her training which includes steadiness to thrown dummies and retrieving to hand, however ere are still many improvements that need to be made. The basic skills have improved and Tilly is now showing some good potential in becoming a working dog. Today’s lesson was mainly to focus on and improve on the skills learnt in previous lessons whilst allowing Tilly to work around other dogs. Tilly is still a young dog and therefore training and development will take place in small steps and will require patience and consistency from Marcus. I look forward to training with Marcus and Tilly over the coming months.
