First attempt at Cold Game Training for Lilly the Labrador

Lilly has been training with me for a while. Her progress has been slow, not helped by the sudden death of her sister a couple of months ago. She has had a tendency to run in and not take direction on retrieves. Today was her first attempt at cold game training. As with many young dogs, she was initially hesitant; after months of being trained not to run after game, this was  a change for her. However, with encouragement and positive reinforcement, she made a clean retrieve and delivered the bird to hand.

I also worked Lilly with my resident Cocker Spaniel and one of my own dogs to teach her steadiness. This was a good mix as Lilly had to wait her turn with the cold game training. This methodical approach to training has worked well and she is now showing good progress.
